WILLIAMS SIGNS WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH CAROLINA

Gainesville, FL – Santa Fe freshman point guard Brenton Williams (Orlando, FL) signed his national letter of intent with the University of South Carolina Gamecocks on April 19, making him the third SF player to sign with a NCAA Division I school in the last week. He is the second player under Coach Chris Mowry to sign with an SEC school, following Francis Aihe in 2008 (Auburn University).

"We are very happy for Brenton and his decision to sign with South Carolina," said SF coach Chris Mowry. "We look forward to watching him compete in the Southeastern Conference for the next three years."

Williams played in ten games for SF his freshman season, averaging 11.8 points per game, 2.0 rebounds and 1.7 assists in 22 minutes per contest. He shot 47% (39-for-83) from the field and 38% (21-for-55) from the three point line. He was named Second Team All-MFC at the conclusion of the season.

"Brenton is a very talented player that can shoot and get to the rim and an extremely gifted and explosive athlete," said Mowry. "He will have a chance to play right away and make an impact for the Gamecocks."

He joins a Gamecocks team led by fourth year head coach Darrin Horn. USC finished 2010-11 with a 14-16 overall record and 5-11 in the always tough SEC. Brenton will have three years of eligibility remaining at South Carolina.
