SF WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

FOUR SAINTS SIGN WITH NCAA SCHOOLS

Gainesville, FL – Four members of the 2010-11 Mid-Florida conference champion Santa Fe Saints women's basketball team recently signed letters of intent with for year NCAA universities to continue their basketball and academic careers.

Brandice Howard will continue her career at Clayton State University (Morrow, GA) under the tutelage of head coach Dennis Cox who has a career record of 189-50 in his seven years at CSU. The Lakers recently won the 2010-11 NCAA Division II National Championship and finished the season 35-1 overall and 18-0 in the Peach Belt Conference.

Howard sat out the entire 2010-11 season due to an injury and will have three years of eligibility remaining at Clayton. As a freshman at SF, she averaged 5.2 points and 4.4 rebounds per game.

Sophomore Demisha Mills inked her LOI with Armstrong Atlantic State University, a NCAA Division II school in Savannah, GA. The Pirates are led by head coach Matt Schmidt who will begin his second season at AASU in fall 2011. Armstrong finished 2010-11 8-18 overall and 4-14 in the Peach Belt Conference.

Mills averaged 8.0 points, 2.7 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game as a sophomore and was named All-MFC Second Team.

Sophomore Jazmyne Green will continue on at Illinois State University, a NCAA Division I school in Normal, IL. The Redbirds are coached by Stephanie Glance, the only coach in history to work under Hall of Fame coaches Pat Summitt at Tennessee (2009-10) and Kay Yow at North Carolina State (1994-2009).

Illinois State finished the 2010-11 season 24-11 overall and 12-6 in the Missouri Valley Conference. They were selected to compete in the Women's Postseason NIT where they were knocked off by the University of Southern California.

Green averaged 5.6 points and 3.2 rebounds per game in her sophomore season, earning All-MFC Honorable Mention.

Freshman Jasmine Blakemore has signed with Mercer University, a NCAA Division I school in Macon, GA. The Bears are led by head coach Susie Gardner, a former Florida Gator assistant under Amanda Butler from 2007-10 and head coach at the University of Arkansas from 2003-07.

Mercer went through a rebuilding year in 2010-11, finishing with a record of 2-27 overall and 2-18 in the Atlantic Sun Conference.

In her only year with SF, Blakemore averaged 5.8 points and 2.7 rebounds per game, earning All-MFC Second Team honors.

"I am happy for this group of sophomores. They led this team to new heights by winning our third MFC Championship and making it to the semi-finals of the state tournament," said SF coach Chanda Stebbins. "I am very proud of them for their opportunities athletically and academically. I know that each of the programs will take the same vested interest in their completing a degree as we have. One of our missions is to provide each of our players with scholarship opportunities at the next level and it is nice to have accomplished that again this year in addition to our other victories."
