TOMOSSONE BLASTS TWO HR, SAINTS EARN SPLIT WITH FSC-J TO REMAIN ON TOP OF MFC STANDINGS
Jacksonville, FL – Colena Lazar pitched Santa Fe (36-9, 15-3 MFC) to a 5-0 game one victory on Tuesday afternoon against Florida State College at Jacksonville, giving the Saints a two game lead over the Stars in the Mid-Florida Conference race.
FSC-J fought back to split the double header with a 4-3 eight inning win in game two, bringing (39-14, 14-5 MFC) the MFC lead back to one game for SF with six to play.
Lazar baffled the Stars with a complete game three hit effort in the first game, striking out six.
Game two was a much closer affair than the first with FSC-J finally getting on the board against Lazar. The Santa Fe defense didn't help matters as they committed four errors, resulting in two Star runs. Lazar surrendered four runs, two earned on six hits with five strikeouts.
The SF produced most of their offense on the day on homeruns. Gia Tomossone smashed two and Erika Garcia, Ashley Holton and Jaimee Vega each hit one.
The Saints host Daytona State College on Thursday in a double header scheduled to start at 2:30 PM.
