An Exciting Week at Santa Fe College
April 11, 2011
We're entering the home stretch of the spring semester and it's a crazy-busy time. On tap for April 11-16:
Dance Gala 2011 starts at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 13, in the new Fine Arts Hall. This is the first public event in the new Hall, a fantastic spring dance concert coordinated by Artistic Director Rodney Brown. (Press release) Free. Bring your dance loving and curious friends! (The "premiere performance" in the new Hall isn't until Sept. 24.)
Percussion Collective and Sinfonia Concert – That same night, Wednesday, on the other side of campus, Dr. Brian Holder is directing the Percussion Collective's annual spring concert and the debut of Sinfonia, Santa Fe's new orchestra. The concert starts at 7:30 p.m. in the E Auditorium. Free.
Wednesday morning, the new Habitat House built by our construction and trade students, is moving to its final resting place. It's loaded on a trailer inside the Perry Construction Institiute and will head out through the giant bay doors to its new home on a lot in downtown Gainesville. This was precisely why O Building was designed the way it was, so that our students can work on huge modular construction projects. How cool is that? Read more
Admissions is coordinating Senior Night, 6-8 p.m. Thursday, April 14. Alachua and Bradford County seniors get to check out what it will be like to study at Santa Fe. While seniors get tours and learn about our programs, student activities, etc., parents get direction about the business end of attending college. Students RSVP online at the Senior Night webpage.
Relay for Life – Santa Fe's Relay campaign is holding a kick-off event and fundraiser in the Oak Grove, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday, April 3. They are selling hot dogs and sausages, paper moons and stars, tie dying T-shirts, and more. The actual walk starts at 6 p.m. Friday, April 15 and goes to noon on Saturday. Read more
Enjoy Blue Water Bay's catering and music by Dan Stepp at the Fine Arts Annual Student Art Show opening mixer, 7-9 p.m. Friday, April 15, in the Santa Fe Gallery in M-147. More than 300 artworks were submitted and just 80 were selected for the show. An award ceremony kicks off at 7:30 p.m. Press release

The photo above was shot today by Professor Wesley Lindberg with his Hipstamatic for iPhone. (Click the photo for a larger view.) He writes: "I was just walking by the new building on my way over to get coffee at Coffee 101 and looked in the window, noticed the baby grand, and thought it would make a great image. It was only afterward that I noticed the cool reflections on the window and in the mirrors. What an exciting way to start my week."
