GARCIA, TORRES HIT WALK OFFS, LAZAR REACHES 500 STRIKEOUTS AS SAINTS SWEEP SJRSC, 3-2 AND 2-1

Gainesville, FL – The Santa Fe Saints (31-8, 12-2 MFC) used two walk off hits to sweep St. John's River on Saturday afternoon, pushing their Mid-Florida Conference record to 12-2. Erika Garcia won the first game with a two out single in the bottom of the tenth inning to score the runner from third base and Bianca Torres hit the first homerun of her career to walk off with a 2-1 win in game two.

Colena Lazar started game one and struck out six, giving her 500 for her career, the first Santa Fe player in history to reach the 500 strikeout mark. She increased her school record in game two to 502 after pitching 1.2 innings in relief of starter Jasmine Warren. Lazar recorded both wins on the day to improve her record to 22-5.

Santa Fe trailed 2-0 going into the bottom of the sixth inning of game one when sophomore Gia Tomossone blasted a two run homer to tie things up at 2-2. Four innings later Garcia lifted the Saints to victory with her game winning single in the bottom of the tenth.

SF took a 1-0 lead in game two in the fifth inning on a two out RBI single by Jaimee Vega. The Vikings tied the score in the sixth on a bases loaded walk. Torres, the second batter of the seventh inning for Santa Fe, took matters into her own hands and delivered a homerun over the left field fence for the win.

Vega led the offense going 4-for-7 on the day with an RBI and Bianca Torres was 3-for-7 with a homerun and two runs scored.

The Saints host Gulf Coast CC on Sunday, April 3 in a non-conference double header scheduled to start at 12:00 PM.
