SF Student Leaders and Student Government Recognized in Tallahassee

March 28, 2011

SF Student Government recently participated in the 2011 Florida Junior Community College Student Government Association's "Rally in Tally" event in Tallahassee. The rally's purpose is to lobby legislators and to recognize statewide student achievements in Student Government.

FJCCSGA's overlying goal is to unify member colleges to attend to the appropriate concerns of the students of the Florida Community College system and to serve as a vehicle to communicate those concerns to the Florida legislative body.

Over the years, FJCCSGA has provided a leadership training ground and political forum for countless students from all 28 of the Junior/Community colleges in the state. Former FJCCSGA representatives are now serving as state and national legislators, college and university presidents, corporate CEOs, physicians, and leaders in virtually every field. .

On March 24, three student representatives from Santa Fe were honored for their achievements in state and newly elected positions:

  • S. Gerard Williams, Jr. (far left in photo) was voted in by the statewide FJCCSGA student body to the position of District IV Coordinator for the state of Florida.
  • Davian Spires (middle in photo) was elected to represent the Executive FJCCSGA Board as the newly elected State Secretary.
  • At the District IV Banquet Ceremony, Lauren Dawe was honored to receive the FJCCSGA District Four Student Volunteer of the Year Award for her outstanding service to her college and community.

All three students have been active members in Student Government at Santa Fe.

Of special significance: SF Student Government was honored to receive the Campus Innovation/Program of the Year Award, in recognition of the students' profound efforts in lobbying for the Start the Bus! Initiative.

Congratulations Santa Fe College Student Government!
