Clapsaddle Improves to 8-1 as Saints Defeat Seminole 10-7

SAINTS HANG ON FOR 10-7 VICTORY OVER SEMINOLE STATE

Gainesville, FL – Sophomore Malcolm Clapsaddle (8-1, 1.28 ERA) continued his winning ways on Saturday afternoon against Seminole State College, pitching seven innings of one run ball to earn his eighth victory of the season. The Saints (26-6-1, 9-3 MFC) finish the first half of the Mid-Florida Conference season with a 9-3 record. They will play each team twice more the rest of the way.

Seminole struck first, scoring a run on an RBI single. Clapsaddle settled in over the next five innings, shutting out the Raiders through the seventh inning. Santa Fe took the lead in the fourth on a two out, two RBI double by Jake Huxtable.

SF added two more in the fifth on doubles by Andrew Grifol and Garrett Greenwell, both coming with two outs.

In the sixth, Zach Taylor singled and scored one batter later on a wild pitch to make it 5-1. Austin Lawrence followed with a triple and Drew Doty capped the inning with a monster homerun to right field to give SF a 7-1 advantage.

The Saints put three insurance runs on the board in the seventh on a two RBI double by Taylor and an RBI single by Lawrence to make it 10-1.

The Santa Fe bullpen struggled in the eighth and ninth innings, surrendering six runs on six hits, including a three run homerun in the ninth.

SF pounded out 13 hits on the day to the Raiders 10. Zach Taylor led the offense, going 3-for-4 with a double and two RBI, Andrew Grifol was 3-for-5 with two doubles and an RBI, Drew Doty was 2-for-4 with a homerun and two RBI, Jake Huxtable was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBI and Austin Lawrence was 2-for-5 with a triple and an RBI.

The Saints travel to Florida State College at Jacksonville on Monday for a MFC game against the Stars scheduled for 3:00 PM.
