Holton and the Saints Split With FSC-J, 2-0 and 1-5

SAINTS AND STARS SPLIT KEY DOUBLEHEADER, 2-0 AND 1-5

Gainesville, FL – The NJCAA #10 Santa Fe Saints (25-8, 6-2 MFC) took game one of a double header against Florida State College at Jacksonville on Tuesday afternoon behind strong pitching from ace Colena Lazar and the bats of Ashley Holton and Erika Garcia.

Lazar surrendered just two hits, both in the first inning, before settling in to shut down the Stars. She struck out nine on the afternoon.

Holton broke a scoreless tie in the third inning with a leadoff homerun to give SF a 1-0 lead. Garcia added an insurance run in the sixth when she singled home Gia Tomossone in the sixth.

Tomossone finished game one 3-for-3 with a double and a run scored.

FSC-J (30-11, 6-2 MFC) struck quickly in game two, scoring two first inning runs off SF starter Jasmine Warren. Garcia pitched five innings, giving up two runs and Lazar pitched the final 1.2, allowing one run which was credited to Garcia.

The Saints lone run came on an errant throw by the Stars, scoring Gia Tomossone who reached on a double.

SF had just four hits in game two. Alaysia Miller and Tomossone doubled and Bianca Torres and Ashley Holton singled.

The Saints travel to Daytona State College on Thursday for a double header against the Falcons scheduled to start at 4:00 PM.
