COLENA LAZAR THROWS ANOTHER NO HITTER AS SAINTS WIN FIRST TWO AT NFCA CLASSIC

Panama City Beach, FL – Santa Fe sophomore Colena Lazar pitched both games on Friday evening in Panama City Beach at the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Leadoff Classic, finishing the night with the sixth no hitter of her career and second of the season. The NJCAA #10 Saints (13-5) blanked Spartanburg Methodist College (SC) 10-0 in five innings in game one and beat the defending NJCAA Division II national champions Muskegon CC (MI) 1-0 in game two on the strength of the no hitter.

On the day Lazar (7-3) pitched two shutouts and allowed just two hits while striking out 18 in 12 innings.

Santa Fe exploded for ten runs in game one, with pitcher Lazar leading the way. Lazar finished 3-for-3 with her first homerun of the season, a triple and three RBI to support her own cause. Jaimee Vega was also 3-for-3 with a triple and two RBI and Ashley Curry was 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI. The Saints had 15 hits in all.

In game two, Lazar was nearly as unhittable as the first, surrendering just two hits and striking out nine.

Jasmine Warren provided the lone SF run on a solo homerun in the third inning.

The Saints continue in the NFCA Leadoff Classic tomorrow, March 5 at 10:00AM CST against Johnson County CC (KS).
