DAYTONA UPENDS #1 SAINTS, 7-3

Gainesville, FL – The NJCAA #1 Santa Fe Saints (17-5-1, 0-2 MFC) dropped their second straight Mid-Florida Conference game to Daytona State on Friday afternoon, falling 7-3. Ben O'Shea (4-1) started on the mound and pitched 4.1 innings, surrendering five runs on six hits with eight strikeouts.
Alec Asher pitched 4.2 innings in relief and struck out six while giving up two runs. The two Santa Fe pitchers combined for 14 strikeouts.
The downfall for SF came in the fifth inning when Daytona pushed six runs across on seven hits and one error. Two run homeruns by Scooter Price and Michael Vracar paced the scoring. The Falcons other run came in the fourth inning on an RBI double.
The Saints had 11 hits on the day but didn't string them together with runners on base. Daytona starter Brad Gero went the distance and struck out nine.
Drew Doty finished 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI, Andrew Grifol was 2-for-4 and Trey Griffin was 2-for-4.
Santa Fe will look to right the ship on Wednesday, March 9 when they travel to College of Central Florida for a MFC game against the Patriots at 3:00 PM.
