SF MEN'S BASKETBALL

SAINTS SEASON ENDS AT THE HANDS OF DAYTONA, 86-76

Daytona, FL – The Santa Fe Saints (18-13, 5-7 MFC) couldn't stop Daytona State in the second half of the first round Mid-Florida Conference tournament match-up and fell 86-76, ending their season. DSC will meet St. John's River tomorrow night for the right to represent the MFC in the FCCAA State Tournament at the #2 seed.

“Both teams played very hard tonight,” said SF coach Chris Mowry. “Daytona was just a little better on offense and we didn't have an answer defensively.”

The score was tied 38-38 at the half, but Daytona came out of the locker room and slowly built a lead, making it double digits with four minutes to play. The Saints didn't give in and cut the lead to six on a few occasions but couldn't get any closer.

The Falcons shot a scorching 57% from the field, 60% from the three point line and 86% from the free throw line.

Sophomore Jerome Clyburn ended his Santa Fe career with 20 points, sophomore Chad Renfro had 14 and sophomore Eddie D'Haiti scored eight points and pulled down eight rebounds. Freshman Marko Djekovic chipped in 13 points.

“I'm proud of the way our guys played all season,” said Mowry. “It didn't turn out the way we wanted it to but they always played hard and were great representatives of the college.”
