SAINTS COME FROM BEHIND IN TWO WINS OVER ST. PETE, 2-1 and 5-1
Gainesville, FL – Ashley Holton played the hero in game one of a double header against St. Petersburg College on Thursday afternoon, blasting the first pitch of her at bat in the bottom of the seventh inning over the left field fence for a walk off 2-1 SF victory. Ashley Curry came up with the big hit in game two, plating two with an RBI single in the fifth inning. The hit started a rally that led to five Santa Fe runs.
Colena Lazar (2-3) pitched a gem in game one, striking out 14 while allowing just one run on one hit. The first batter of the game doubled and became the Titans only run.
Ashley Curry knocked in the first run for the NJCAA #10 Saints (6-4) in the third inning when she singled home Jasmine Warren to knot the score at 1-1. Neither team got much of anything going until Ashley Holton stepped to the plate in the seventh and won the game with a walk off homerun.
Game two started the same way as the first one with St. Pete scoring first. This time the run came on a homerun by the leadoff batter of the second inning.
The Saints were quiet until the fifth inning when Ashley Curry plated two with a one out RBI single to give SF their first lead, 2-1. They would add three insurance runs in the sixth on an RBI single by Jasmine Warren and two Titan errors.
Warren started in the circle and pitched four innings, allowing one run. Erika Garcia picked up the win by pitching three perfect innings. Seven of the outs came on infield ground balls.
Santa Fe continues their home stand on Saturday when South Florida CC visits for a double header scheduled to start at 1:00 PM.
