Get Help Applying for Financial Aid for College at "College Goal Sunday," Feb. 20
February 17, 2011
Students who hope to attend college or trade school will be given a clear path to federal cash assistance during a free statewide event known as Florida College Goal Sunday.
On Sunday, Feb. 20, financial experts will help college-bound students and their families complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) from 2-4 p.m. in N-216 (the Big Open Lab, or BOL). The FAFSA helps students access billions in federal funds available for college.
"Traditionally, low-income and first-generation students fall through the cracks in the financial aid process because they’re intimidated by the forms and have not been exposed to the financial aid process," said Maureen McFarlane, director of Financial Aid at Santa Fe. "College Goal Sunday helps break the barriers that prevent students from accessing funds they need to pursue higher education."
College Goal Sunday Florida is a free event. Financial aid assistance will be available in English and Spanish (if other accommodations are needed, please request ahead of the event). A scholarship drawing will also be held for students who attend the event.
