Santa Fe College Collaborates with the Heart of Florida to Improve Regional Healthcare; Summit is Feb. 21
February 15, 2011
The Heart of Florida Healthcare Summit IV will convene Feb. 21 in Gainesville to continue its collaboration with industry and education partners to address healthcare shortages in our region.
“Previous Healthcare Summits have brought more than hope; they have yielded tangible results,” said Santa Fe College President Jackson Sasser.
Those results include the formation of a steering committee, a taskforce to ensure sharing of clinical sites for training, a regional survey assessing the needs of health providers, and efforts to explore a health information exchange system for our area.
The next summit will meet 7:45 a.m.-noon Monday, Feb. 21 at the Best Western Gateway Grand, 4200 NW 97th Blvd.
Guest speakers and panelists will provide perspectives, practices, and progress related to statewide and local healthcare issues, including Mary Lou Brunell, executive director of the Florida Center for Nursing; Tracy Yacobellis, Florida Department of Education; Dr. R. Paul Duncan, chair of Health Sciences Research, Management and Policy at the University of Florida; Dr. Kendra Siler-Marsigilio, director of Rural Health Partnership; hospital CEOs and administrators, educators and legislative aides.
The 2011 Healthcare Summit is dedicated to improved services for patients and tuition relief for nursing faculty to pursue advanced degrees so they can teach the next generation of nursing students at state institutions of higher learning.
