SAINTS COLLAPSE IN THE NINTH, LOSE TO HCC 12-8

Gainesville, FL – The NJCAA #23/FCCAA #3 Saints (9-3-1) took an 8-4 lead into the ninth inning against Hillsborough CC but four errors and four passed balls cost Santa Fe eight runs and a loss to the Hawks.
The Saints opened the scoring in the fourth with a three run homerun by Jordan Turner. They added one in the fifth on an RBI double by Tim Remes and four more in the seventh on RBI by Trey Griffin, Andrew Grifol and TJ Spina.
Jarod Carlton started the game on the mound for SF and surrendered just two runs on three hits in 5.1 innings. Daniel Schiller relived Carlton and forced a flyout to second base against his only batter, but not before giving up a run on a balk.
Steven Ragans took over from there and pitched 2.1 innings, surrendering two runs to make the score 8-4 going into the ninth.
The Santa Fe defense fell apart in the ninth inning, committing four errors and allowing four pass balls. The SF pitchers gave up just two hits. All eight runs were unearned.
The Saints piled up 15 hits on the day and allowed only eight but committed five errors for the second game in a row. Turner led the SF offense going 3-for-5 with a homerun and three RBI, Jay Laurienzo was 3-for-5 with an RBI, Austin Lawrence was 2-for-5, Tim Remes finished 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI and Andrew Grifol was 2-for-5 with an RBI.
The next game for SF is at home on Wednesday, February 16 at 3:00 PM against St. Petersburg College.
