SANTA FE DROPS THIRD STRAIGHT TO CENTRAL FLORIDA, 80-76
Gainesville, FL – Central Florida once again had Santa Fe's number late in the game as the Patriots held on for another four point victory, 80-76. All three games this season were decided by four points with CCF coming out on top of each one.
“This was a hard fought game by both teams,” said SF Coach Chris Mowry. “We had some opportunities late but didn't fully capitalize like we needed to.”
Central Florida led for nearly the entire first half and took a 41-32 lead into the break. Jerome Clyburn and Brenton Williams combined for 17 first period points to lead Santa Fe (17-11, 4-6 MFC).
The Saints cut into the lead in the second half, getting within five on numerous occasions. Each time CCF had an answer, stretching the lead back out. SF finally broke through with under a minute to go, trimming the lead to just two points on an Eddie D'Haiti put back layup.
Two free throws by the Patriots pushed the lead back to four and the Saints were unable to score the rest of the way.
“I'm happy with our effort but we have to improve defensively,” said Mowry. “They are a very talented team and we let them have too many good looks.”
Eddie D'Haiti led SF with 17 points, Jerome Clyburn scored 14, Josh Wiseman had 10 and Brenton Williams added 10.
The Saints travel to Florida State College at Jacksonville on Saturday, February 12 for a game against the Stars at 6:00 PM. The game can be watched live on www.psblive.com.
