PATRIOTS SQUEEZE PAST SAINTS, 63-62

Gainesville, FL – A late three point shot by the Central Florida Patriots provided the winning margin on Wednesday evening as CCF defeated Santa Fe 63-62. Despite the loss, the Saints (15-12, 7-3 MFC) remain in first place in the Mid-Florida Conference, tied with Daytona State who lost to Hillsborough CC on Wednesday.

SF started hot and led by six at the eight minute mark, but nine turnovers over the final eight minutes flipped the game in CCF's favor. The Patriots outscored the Saints 20-11 over that stretch to take a 32-29 lead into the break.

Central Florida (15-12, 5-4 MFC) started the second half strong and built a 44-35 lead five minutes in. The Saints chipped away and retook the lead at 8:00. With 37 seconds to go, Santa Fe led 62-60 after a three pointer by Kindsay Brandt and a free throw by Stephenie Coney. CCF answered however with a three of their own to make it 63-62. A last second shot by SF failed to go in as the Patriots held on for the win.

Santa Fe again struggled from the free throw line, making only 16-for-28 (57.1%)

“We executed pretty good down the stretch but didn't get a few shots to fall our way and we didn't make free throws,” said SF coach Chanda Stebbins. “We have to get better on the free throw line if we expect to win close games.”

Brandt led SF in scoring with 15, Kristien Malone had 12 and Leandra King scored 11

The Saints travel to Florida State College at Jacksonville on Saturday, February 12 for a game against the Stars at 4:00 PM. The game can be watched live on www.psblive.com.
