SANTA FE AND POLK STATE FINISH IN A TIE, 10-10

Gainesville, FL – Polk State College (1-0-1) nearly pulled off a big upset over NJCAA #23 Santa Fe College (2-1-1) on Monday afternoon, but the late game heroics of SF catcher Tim Remes saved the Saints in the bottom ninth. The game was called due to darkness after the ninth inning.

Santa Fe started the game off hot, scoring seven runs in the first three innings. Trey Griffin knocked in the first run on a fielder's choice and TJ Spina later scored advancing on a throw by the catcher.

In the second inning, Drew Doty (1) smashed a deep homerun to right field, the first of the season for SF. The Saints added two more in the third on an RBI double by Griffin and a sacrifice fly by Huxtable.

Polk trailed 7-3 going into the top of the ninth, but scored seven runs to take a 10-7 lead. In the bottom of the inning, Trey Griffin started things off with a single and Andrew Grifol followed him with a walk. Two batters later Garrett Greenwell doubled to right field to make it 10-8. Tim Remes stepped to the plate next and delivered a sharp single to center, scoring both runners to tie the game. SF had two opportunities to win the game with the bases loaded, but the Vikings pitchers came up big to keep the game tied up.

Alec Asher started the game on the mound for Santa Fe and pitched 2.1 innings, surrendering two runs on four hits. Steven Ragans pitched the next 4.2 innings, giving up only one run on three hits.

After a scoreless eighth by Kyle Rowe, Brendan O'Rourke and Antwan Brown struggled in the ninth, combing to give up seven runs on three hits and three walks in one third of an inning. Ryan Yarbrough came in to get the final two outs of the ninth.

Drew Doty finished the game 3-for-5 with a homerun and three RBI, Tim Remes was 3-for-4 with two RBI, Trey Griffin was 2-for-5 with a double and two RBI, TJ Spina was 2-for-6, and Garrett finished 2-for-3.

The Saints face off against the Polk State Vikings again on Wednesday, February 2 in Winter Haven at 5:00pm.
