Saints Win Two of Three at JUCO Kickoff Classic

SAINTS WIN TWO OF THREE AT JUCO KICKOFF CLASSIC
Gainesville, FL – The NJCAA #10 Santa Fe Saints (2-1) opened their season on Saturday in Clearwater at the 2011 JUCO Kickoff Classic and won their first two games before falling to Hillsborough CC in game three. Jasmine Warren started in the circle in game one for Santa Fe and combined with Stephanie Cameron on a one hit shutout of Stanly CC (NC), 5-0.
Erika Garcia won game two with an RBI in the bottom of the seventh inning to give the Saints an 11-10 win over Polk State College. Garcia also earned the win, pitching in relief of starter Colena Lazar.
SF played sloppy in game three, committing six errors in a 4-2 loss to Hillsborough CC. Starting pitcher Colena Lazar surrendered one hit, but the defensive struggles led to four unearned runs for the Hawks.
On the day, the Saints outscored their opponents 19-14, collecting 27 hits along the way. Colesa Lazar was 5-for-8 and Jaimee Vega finished 5-for-9. Venica Brown tallied a .429 avergae on the day, going 3-for-7, Gia Tomossone had two doubles and five RBI and Garcia finished with six RBI.
The Saints return to action in their home opener on Friday, February 4 when they host St. Petersburg College in a double header scheduled for 2:00 PM.
