SAINTS SPLIT DOUBLE HEADER WITH SOUTH GEORGIA, 2-1 and 0-3
Gainesville, FL – The NJCAA #23/FCCAA #4 Santa Fe Saints (2-1) took game one of a double header , 2-1, against South Georgia College on Saturday afternoon behind strong pitching from Ben O'Shea, Alec Asher, Steven Ragans and Antwan Brown.
O'Shea (1-0) was nearly unhittable over his four innings of work, striking out nine while surrendering only two hits and one run. Asher and Ragans each pitched a scoreless inning and Brown (1) closed the game out with a scoreless frame of his own for the first save of his career.
Santa Fe scored both of their runs in the third inning. Drew Doty started things off with a triple to deep centerfield and scored on an RBI single by Austin Lawrence. Lawrence scored two batters later on a sacrifice fly by Zach Taylor.
Taylor finished game one 2-for-3 with an RBI, Doty was 1-for-3 with a triple and Tim Remes was 1-for-2.
In game two the Santa Fe bats never got going as the Saints were shut out 3-0. Chris Lee (0-1) started on the mound and gave up two runs on three hits in four innings with three strikeouts. Kyle Rowe pitched a scoreless fifth inning, Ryan Yarbrough surrendered one run in the sixth on two hits and Kentrail Pierce blanked SGC in the seventh.
TJ Spina, Trey Griffin, Jay Laurienzo and Tim Remes had one hit apiece for SF. The Saints return to action on Monday, January 31 at home against Polk State College at 3:00pm.
