STRONG SECOND HALF LEADS TO SANTA FE WIN, 75-51

Gainesville, FL – The FCCAA #7 Santa Fe Saints (14-10, 6-1 MFC) used a big second half run to break a 37-37 tie and pull away from the Florida State College at Jacksonville Stars on Wednesday night, earning their sixth straight win in conference play.

The Saints led by as many as eight in the first half, but the Stars chipped away to cut the deficit to 33-31 at the break.

The score went back and forth to start the second half before SF took control of the game with a 22-5 run over an eight minute span to make the led 59-42 with 7:40 to go. The Saints kept their foot on the gas pedal and stretched the lead out over the final minutes, finishing with a 75-51 win.

"Our defense was the catalyst in the second half for our run," said SF coach Chanda Stebbins. "We turned up the intensity and it really sparked us on offense." SF outrebounded the Stars 57-39 and made 40.5% of their shots compared to only 29.5% for FSC-J.

"I was very happy with our effort on the boards tonight," said Stebbins. "Our post players blocked out well and really did a nice job getting second chance opportunities for us and limited theirs."

Four Saints scored in double figures including Stephenie Coney with 12 points and four assists, Kristien Malone scored 11 points, Leandra King had 10 points and 12 rebounds and Jasmine Richardson finished with 10 points and 12 rebounds.

"We did a nice job tonight of involving our post players," said Stebbins. "Our guards did a good job feeding passes down low to help create opportunities for our bigs to get some solid looks at the basket."

Santa Fe returns to action next Wednesday, February 2 when they travel to Tampa to take on Hillsborough Community College at 4:00pm. The game can be watched live on www.psblive.com.
