SF MEN'S BASKETBALL

ST. JOHN'S DEFEATS SANTA FE, 69-66

Gainesville, FL – The Santa Fe Saints (15-7, 2-2 MFC) led by seven at halftime and as many as 13 in the second half, but a 15-0 run erased the deficit and propelled the Vikings of St. John's River State College (15-7, 2-2 MFC) to a Mid-Florida Conference victory, their first over SF since 2009. The Saints are now tied with St. John's and Florida State College-Jacksonville for second place in the MFC with eight games to go. The top two teams make the FCCAA State Tournament.

"St. John's played harder than us in the second half," said SF coach Chris Mowry. "They defended better and were better prepared. It's my responsibility as a coach to have our guys ready for both halves and we weren't. However, I'm not taking anything away from them [St. John's]. They played a great game."

Eddie D'Haiti and Branimir Mikulic each had 14 points for SF and Brent Williams added 13. Mikulic also pulled down eight rebounds. De'Andre Johnson led SJRSC with 15.

"Branimir played a solid game tonight," said Mowry. "He knocked down his open shots and worked hard on the boards. Eddie had a nice game, but got into some foul trouble that put us in a tough position. Ilija [Ivankovic] was a game time decision and gave us what he could down low when Eddie was out."

SF travels to Daytona State College on Saturday, January 22 for a game against the Falcons at 4:00pm. The game can be watched live on www.psblive.com.
