SAINTS PULL OUT OVERTIME WIN OVER HCC, 69-64

Gainesville, FL – The Santa Fe Saints (11-10, 3-1 MFC) trailed by as many as 13 points with four minutes to go in the game on Wednesday night against Hillsborough CC, but fought back to earn the Mid-Florida Conference win in overtime.

Despite shooting only 29% (20-for-69) the Saints managed to pull out the win. Santa Fe made up for their poor field goal percentage by making 22 free throws, 11 more than the Hawks. Five Santa Fe players were perfect from the charity stripe. As a team, they were shooting just 58% coming into the game.

"I'm proud of how well we shot from the free throw line tonight," said SF coach Chanda Stebbins. "Our players have been working hard and it showed."

Down 55-42 with four minutes remaining in the game, SF's Leandra King made two free throws and Jasmine Richardson hit a three pointer to cut the lead to eight. After two more King free throws, Kindsay Brandt brought the crowd to their feet with a three point shot that cut the Hawk advantage to 57-54 with two minutes to go.

Richardson was the hero at the end of regulation for the Saints when she put back a missed shot to knot the score at 60-60, sending the game to overtime.

Santa Fe never trailed in overtime and four free throws down the stretch by Brandt, Stephanie Edwards and Jasmine Richardson put the game away.

Kristien Malone led the Saints offensively and had one of her best games of the season, scoring 14 points to go with 11 rebounds. Brandt finished with 12 points and four rebounds, Richardson scored 10 points and pulled down five rebounds and King had five points, 10 rebounds, four blocks and five steals. Already the Saints all-time leader, the four blocks give King 102 for her career, making her the first Santa Fe women's basketball player with 100 or more blocked shots in their career.

"Kristien was a real difference maker on the court for us tonight," said Stebbins. "She did a lot of good things on both ends of the court."

The Saints travel to Daytona State College on Saturday, January 22 for a game against the Falcons at 2:00pm. The game can be watched live at www.psblive.com.
