SAINTS DEFEAT BROWARD TO WIN FOURTH STRAIGHT, 61-55

Daytona, FL – The Santa Fe Saints (8-7) avenged an early season loss to Broward College on Saturday in Daytona by defeating the Seahawks 61-55. The win is the fourth in a row for Coach Chanda Stebbins and the Saints, and moves them above .500 for the first time since November 6.

Stephenie Coney hit a three pointer with 45 seconds remaining to make the score 61-54, icing the game for SF. The Santa Fe defense would hold on from there, surrendering just a single free throw the rest of the game.

Leandra King led the way, scoring 10 points off the bench to go with 13 rebounds and three blocked shots. Kindsay Brandt nearly had a double double, scoring nine points with nine rebounds, Demisha Mills scored nine points, Jazmyne Green had eight points and Jasmine Richardson had 11 rebounds. Ashley Bacchus also played well off the bench, pitching in four points and seven rebounds.

“I'm really proud of our team and their effort today. Leandra and Ashley gave us great minutes off the bench and really did a nice job boxing out and rebounding,” said SF coach Chanda Stebbins. “I want our players to enjoy the break and come back refreshed and ready to play in the Cabot Lodge Classic later this month.”

Santa Fe hosts the Cabot Lodge Classic on December 29 and 30. The Saints take on Chipola College on December 29 at 6:00pm and the defending the National Champion Gulf Coast CC Commodores on December 30 at 4:00pm.
