The win is the second this season over SCF, the first coming November 9 when Santa Fe traveled to Bradenton and won 93-88. “This is a good win for us at home coming off a loss to Indian River,” said SF coach Chris Mowry. “One thing we have to improve on is finishing games when we have a lead. Taking care of the basketball, boxing out and containing the drivers are a few things we lapsed on in the final few minutes tonight.” The Saints never trailed in the game, and held as much as a 17 point lead in the second half before SCF made a run, cutting it to single digits with 2:30 remaining. SF withstood the last Manatee's assault and made their free throws down the stretch to secure the victory. Eddie D'Haiti stepped his game up in the second half, where he scored 10 of his 12 points and controlled the boards, pulling down nine rebounds to limit the second chance opportunities for SCF. “Eddie came in off the bench and did a super job scoring and rebounding,” Mowry said. “He continues to improve game by game and is really starting to make a difference for us on the inside.” Jerome Clyburn led the Saints in scoring, netting 16 and was one assist shy of a double double finishing with nine. He was 7-for-10 from the free throw line “Jerome had a really solid game,” said Mowry. “He distributed the ball well and made his free throws. He had a few more turnovers than we would like to see, but I think a lot of that has to do with fatigue. He plays a lot of minutes and we probably need to work on resting him a little more if we can.” The Saints will travel to Marianna on Friday and Saturday for the Panhandle Shootout at Chipola College, the yearly site of the FCCAA State Tournament. Their first game will match them up with the host school, Chipola on Friday, December 3 at 9:00pm. On Saturday, the Saints will take on Tallahassee CC at 5:00pm. “We play two outstanding teams this weekend,” said Mowry. “This will be a big step up in competition level for us. They are two of the best teams in the country and it will be a real challenge facing them. I told our guys that we can win both of these games, but we have to play all forty minutes.” For complete schedules and more information on Saints Basketball, please visit santafesaints.com.
