SF WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

NW FLORIDA STATE DEFEATS SANTA FE, 52-47

Niceville, FL – The Santa Fe Saints (4-6) gave a valiant effort on Friday night against NW Florida State College, but were unable to pull of the comeback win after falling behind 31-15 at the half.

“We have to get better at playing for a full forty minutes,” SF coach Chanda Stebbins said. “I am very proud of the effort we gave for about 18 minutes of the game, but in order to beat teams the caliber of NW Florida State, we have to learn to play hard the entire game.”

Trailing by double digits early in the second half, SF went on a 22-3 run to cut the Raiders lead to 43-39. That was as close as the Saints would get however, as NW Florida held off the Santa Fe rally to earn the win.

Free throw shooting again hurt SF, as they made only 12-of-27 on the game.

Jazmyne Green finished with 10 points, Demisha Mills had eight points and three steals and Kristien Malone had a game high 12 rebounds.

“Kristian really stepped up for us tonight,” said Stebbins. “Hopefully her effort, along with the way we played in the second half will carry over into tomorrow’s game with NW Shoals.”

The Saints take on NW Shoals CC on Saturday at 1:30pm in Niceville.
