BROWARD KNOCKS OFF SANTA FE, 64-59, DESPITE 18 FROM MILLS
Ocala, FL – Demisha Mills scored 18 points in a losing effort for the FCCAA #9 Saints (4-5) on Sunday night and had a game tying layup called off due to a charging call with just seconds to go as Santa Fe dropped a close game to Broward College on Sunday afternoon in the final day of the Central Florida Shootout.
SF controlled the action in the first period and led 34-28 at the break, but Broward fought back to take a late 61-59 lead with 32 seconds remaining.
The Saints put the ball in sophomore Demisha Mills’ hands and she delivered what would have been the game tying shot, but a charging call negated the basket, keeping BC in the lead.
After Broward made one of two free throws, Santa Fe’s Jazmyne Green put up a game tying three point attempt with 12 seconds left that rimmed in and out. BC then made two free throws to ice the game.
Mills led Santa Fe with 18 points, four assists and three steals, Leandra King had nine points and 11 rebounds, her third straight game with double digit boards and Jazmyne Green had 12 points and 10 rebounds.
“Demisha played very hard today and I’m proud of her,” said SF coach Chanda Stebbins. “I would like to see all of our players play with that same effort and energy as she does game in and game out.”
The Saints will travel to Niceville on Friday and Saturday, November 26 and 27 for the NW Florida State College Thanksgiving Classic. On Friday, SF takes on tournament host NW Florida State at 5:30pm and NW Shoals CC (AL) on Saturday at 1:30pm.
