Fiber Arts: The Culture of Women and Textiles

November 18, 2010

The Student Life Art Gallery is calling for original fabric art to display in the spring exhibit in honor of Women’s History Month. Fabric art can include but is not limited to needlepoint, embroidery, knitting, crocheting, weaving, rug making, and quilting.

We are looking for pieces that were created by SF students, faculty and staff or someone from their family – i.e. mothers, grandmothers, great grandmothers, aunts, etc.

Submission requirements:

  • Please complete the entry form (available in S-147 or on the Student Life Art Gallery website) to submit with the artwork
  • All submissions must be able to be wall mounted/hung and must be submitted installation ready
  • All submissions must contain a brief artists statement (50 words or less) explaining the making of the object, including the conditions under which it was made, by whom, and its purpose.

We will be accepting submissions Jan. 3-21, 2011. You can bring your piece to S-147. Based on the number of submissions, judging for entry may be required due to limited gallery space. We will notify you whether your piece will be displayed.

If you have any questions please contact Krista Froiseth in Student Life at 352-381-3717.
