GULF COAST UPENDS SANTA FE 83-71
Marianna, FL – The Saints (2-2) hung with the defending National Champion Gulf Coast CC Commodores (2-0) on Friday night, falling in a closely contested game, 83-71.
Santa Fe played shot for shot in the first half, trailing by only four at the break 43-39, despite shooting only 1-for-8 from the free throw line. In the second half, GCCC was able to keep it at an 8-10 point deficit behind strong play from Kyra Crosby who finished with 28 points.
“This was a good learning experience for us,” said SF Coach Chanda Stebbins. “We played well most of the game, we just didn’t have an answer for Crosby.”
Four SF players scored in double figures, led by freshman guard Kindsay Brandt’s 15. Stephanie Edwards scored 14 with four assists, Leandra King 10 points and nine rebounds and Jasmine Blakemore had 10 points. Jasmine Richardson scored seven points off the bench to spark the Saints.
“Jasmine Blakemore, Jasmine Richards and Edwards did some good things off the bench for us today,” said Stebbins. “As a team, we just have to start doing the little things better. One thing that was exciting to see is how deep and balanced we are. A lot of different players can contribute for us and that is important going forward.”
The state ranked #8 Saints continue in the Collegiate Girls Basketball Report Classic on Saturday at 3:00pm EDT against another Panhandle Conference opponent, #4 Tallahassee CC. The game can be watched live at http://www.chipola.edu/tv/.
