SAINTS TAKE DOWN MANATEES 93-88 TO WIN FOURTH STRAIGHT
Bradenton, FL – Five Santa Fe (4-0) players scored in double figures as the Saints won on the road Tuesday night against State College of Florida 93-88, winning their fourth straight game to start the 2010-11 season.
Marko Djekovic led the way, scoring 21 points, including 10-of-12 from the free throw line. Chad Renfro and Jerome Clyburn poured in 16 each, Anthony Nwadigo had 14 and Mike Washington 12.
The Saints trailed 45-39 at the half, but for the second game in a row, Renfro hit three three pointers to open the second period to give SF the lead. The game was back and forth until the five minute mark when Santa Fe was able to pull slightly ahead. Clyburn and Djekovic made 8-of-9 free throws over the final minutes to secure the victory.
“Our guys did a nice job tonight getting a tough win on the road,” said SF coach Chris Mowry. “Chad gave us a nice boost to start the second half and we were able to make our free throws down the stretch. This was the first road game for a lot of our players and I thought they did a good job handling the pressure.”
The Saints return home on Sunday for a game against the Tampa Swish at 2:00pm.
