RENFRO, MIKULIC SHOOT SAINTS PAST ST. THOMAS JV, 102-59
Gainesville, FL – The Santa Fe Saints were red hot from the three point line on Friday night against St. Thomas University JV, nailing 16 three point shots in route to a 102-59 win.
“Good job tonight by the guys, that was a good win with only nine guys dressed,” said SF coach Chris Mowry. “Anthony Nwadigo and Josh Wiseman are both coming off injuries and haven’t been practicing much but were able to give us some good minutes. Everybody contributed tonight and played well.”
Branimir Mikulic finished one rebound shy of a double double, scoring a career high 20 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the three point line. Chad Renfro was 5-of-10 on three pointers, finishing with 18 points.
“We shot the ball well tonight from the three point line and inside,” said Mowry. “We had a size advantage that helped in the paint but St. Thomas’ athleticism posed some problems for us on the outside.”
Three other Saints scored in double figures, Ilija Ivankovic had 13 with six rebounds, Marko Djekovic 11 with six assists and Mike Washington had 10 points. Jerome Clyburn and Josh Wiseman were just short of double figures with nine points each.
Santa Fe controlled things from the outset and led at the half 51-30. They were 9-of-20 from the three point line and 18-for-34 from the field. The Saints defense held the Bobcats to 36% shooting (11-of-20).
The second half was much of the same as SF dominated both ends of the court, building a 40 point lead late in the game. Johnathan Williams, from Buccholz High School, put an exclamation point on the victory when he slammed home the 100th point of the night, capping a dominant Saints victory.
“We played very unselfishly and everyone got into the scoring column again tonight,” said Mowry. “We are looking forward to coming back tomorrow with the same intensity and enthusiasm against Indian River.”
The Saints face off with Indian River State College in the second day of the Cabot Lodge Tip-Off Classic on Saturday at 6:00pm.
