SAINTS FALL TO TAMPA XFACTOR, 76-63
Gainesville, FL – The Santa Fe Saints (0-1) took on Tampa XFactor on Tuesday night, a travel squad made up of former college players and came up short, falling 76-63 in a hard fought game.
Tampa took control of the game early and didn’t look back, taking a 38-22 lead into the break. Santa Fe struggled to shoot, making only 6-of-23 shots and 8-of-17 free throws in the first period.
“It’s tough to win shooting 26% from the field,” said SF coach Chanda Stebbins. “We also didn’t convert enough free throws. We really emphasized how important they were in the off season, but we didn’t show it very well tonight.”
The second half was much of the same, with Tampa controlling most of the tempo. The XFactor stretched their lead to a game high 24 with eight minutes to go beforethe Saints’ Kindsay Brandt went on a tear, making four three pointers over the final seven minutes to make the final score 76-63.
Brandt led Santa Fe in scoring with 14, Jasmine Blakemore had 11, Stephanie Edwards 10 and Leandra King led the team in rebounding with nine.
“Leandra did a nice job for us tonight on both ends of the court,” said Stebbins. “Kindsay shot the ball in the second half very well and our post players did a pretty good job against their bigs.”
The Saints host the Cabot Lodge Tip-Off Classic on November 5 and 6 and play St. Petersburg College on Friday at 6:00pm and Palm Beach State College on Saturday at 4:00pm.
