Celebrate Campus Sustainability Day Today!

October 20, 2010

Santa Fe College is celebrating national Campus Sustainability Day on Wednesday, Oct. 20,  with a Sustainability Festival around the student gardens in front of E Auditorium, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.

Student clubs, including the Saints for Sustainability, Scientific Exploration Society, Model UN, Global Society, The Gallereans and the SF Student Gardeners have created informational displays on different aspects of sustainability.

Start the Bus! is tabling about their campaign and transportation alternatives and Student Govenment's new sustainability coordinator, Eliza Breder, is asking for feedback on potentially having subscription farm produce deliveries on campus or a campus farmer's market.

In addition, students from SF's Automotive Program will be on hand with their Prius.

Several outside vendors will also have displays, including the Community Weatherization Coalition, which will be giving hands-on demonstrations on how to save energy at home. Stop by and check out your energy IQ. Bikes and More will have bikes you can try out. Waste Alternatives is sponsoring the Recycling Relay to test your knowledge of Alachua County's recyclable collections. Sweetwater Coffee will give out sample cups of fair trade, organically grown coffee. Other groups tabling include the SuperFund Art Project; Cinema Verde, Gainesville's Environmental Film and Art Festival; the UF Office of Sustainability, and the local chapter of the US Green Building Council.

This event is sponsored by Academic Affairs, Saints for Sustainability, Sustainable Santa Fe, SF Organic Gardeners and Student Life.
