White House Summit on Community Colleges Today
October 4, 2010
Everyone is invited to join Dr. Jackson Sasser at noon today in the Cabinet Room of the Robinson Administration Building for the broadcast of the plenary session of this historic first conference on community colleges.
On Tuesday, Oct. 5, Dr. Jill Biden will convene the first-ever White House Summit on Community Colleges, bringing together community college administrators, faculty and students, business and philanthropic leaders, as well as federal and state policy leaders. This representative group of individuals will discuss workforce training and the critical role of community colleges as part of America's economic vision for the future.
There is increasing awareness of the important and innovative role that community colleges play in helping our economy get back on track. As Dr. Jackson Sasser writes, this summit, “highlights the accomplishments of community colleges and focuses on the very real challenges before us in training and re-training our nation's workers.”
Organizers have made the summit interactive in that you can submit your questions and ideas online at http://communitycollege.ideascale.com/.
The summit's opening plenary session begins at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday and will be streamed live at WhiteHouse.gov/live. You can watch it on your desktop computer or in the company of your colleagues in the Cabinet Room in the Administration Building.
