W Building New Distribution Site for Gainesville Harvest
August 23, 2010
Free food available twice a week for students, faculty and staff
Thanks to the hard work of Science for Health Programs Professors Kerry Chancey and Sarah Stone, our campus joins the list of Gainesville Harvest's food distribution sites, starting today.
“We've been working on this for about a year, so we're really excited to finally see it turning into a reality,” said Chancey.
ANY SF student, faculty or staff member who could use a little assistance with the family budget is welcome to pick up free non-perishable food items in W-42 on Mondays between 9-11 a.m. and 2-4 p.m.
You don't need to meet income requirements or even provide your name, but you are required to disclose the number of people living in your household, and how much food you are picking up, for Harvest's bookkeeping. (If you are a household of one, no problem!)
Students and staff with urgent needs can utilize our referral system and get non-perishable can goods once a month. For more information on the can-good referral system, please ask one of the Harvest volunteers.
Gainesville Harvest is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing food to those in need in the Alachua County area. Harvest volunteers pick up surplus food from community donors and deliver it to hungry people at various distribution sites in the county.
