BAEZ SIGNS WITH DIVISION II POWER ARKANSAS TECH
Gainesville, FL – Santa Fe College sophomore guard Chris Baez has signed a scholarship to continue his academic and basketball career at Arkansas Tech University, SF Coach Chris Mowry announced. He will have two years of playing eligibility remaining.
Baez led the Saints in scoring at 14.1 ppg in his only season with SF after transferring from the University of Central Florida. He averaged 3.7 rebounds per game, 1.3 assists and led the team in field goals made (133) and three pointers made (62). For his efforts, he was named First Team All Mid-Florida Conference.
Arkansas Tech, located in Russellville, AR, is one of the premier men's basketball programs at the NCAA Division II level. In 2009-10, the Wonder Boys completed one of the best seasons in school history, finishing 30-2, winning their second straight Gulf South Conference title. The team qualified for their second straight NCAA II National Tournament, but were knocked off in the second round by #6 Valdosta State. ATU was ranked #1 in NCAA Div. II from January 19 through the end of the regular season.
The Wonder Boys will have a new head coach next season when Doug Karleskint takes over for former Head Coach Mark Downey, who has moved on to coach the University of Charleston.
