Ghanian Study Abroad Presentations Open to SF Community June 23

June 22, 2010

Dr. Naima Cherie Brown writes:

“This summer, I had the opportunity to lead my very first study abroad tour! The trip was a part of my Principles of Sociology course and Heidi Lannon's Cultural Geography course.

“I traveled with six Santa Fe College students to Ghana in West Africa to explore cultural differences and similarities first hand. We had plenty of opportunities to apply sociological terms to our real life experiences as we lived in a community setting, volunteered in a primary school, tried our hands at basket weaving and kente cloth weaving, explored the Cape Coast Slave Castles, walked the canopy in the Kakum rain forest, hiked up to Wli Waterfalls, attended a concert at Independence Square, engaged in a social exchange with students at the University of Ghana, enjoyed a cruise on Lake Volta, and toured two small fishing villages.

“Please check out my Ghana slide show at http://people.sfcollege.edu/naima.brown/TRAVEL.HTM and then join our group for the student presentations on Wednesday, June 23 from 11:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. in E-103.”
