PETERSON SIGNS WITH WEBBER INTERNATIONAL

Gainesville, FL – Santa Fe sophomore Ashley “JoJo” Peterson has signed a scholarship to play next season with Webber International University, SF Coach Chris Ahern announced.

“We are so pleased for JoJo. Her first year here she was unable to play due to a shoulder surgery, but she did everything she could to contribute to the team's success,” said Ahern. “She helped right down to the last detail of equipment, scorekeeping, tossing bunts – anything she could to be involved to help and encourage her teammates.” Peterson, a third baseman and outfielder for the Saints, hit .322 in 2010, with five doubles, 15 runs and eight RBI in 37 games. On the base paths, she was a perfect 4-for-4 stealing bases.

“It was wonderful to have her back on the field this past year,” Ahern said. “She did good things with the bat and proved herself to be quite versatile in both the infield and outfield. We wish her all the best in her new school, and know she will continue to grow as a player, and be a great teammate.”

Peterson will join Webber, a NAIA school in Babson Park, FL, in the Fall. The Warriors are led by Head Coach Bobby Green and finished the 2010 season with a 32-20 record and 12-3 in the Sun Conference.

Two former Saints fastpitch players from the 2009 team will join Peterson at WIU. Power hitting outfielder Belourse Jean-Francis, who spent the 2010 season at Georgia College and State University and speedy, slick fielding outfielder Yahtea Benton, who attended Florida A&M University last year, have signed on with the Warriors for 2010-11.

“It will be a great reunion of three excellent players,” Ahern said. “Webber will be quite impressed with their abilities, speed, power and overall love of the game. We are proud and happy for them and we wish them great things, especially being back together again!”
