Former Saint Andy Mee and FAU to Play NCAA Regional at UF

Gainesville, FL – Andy Mee (Palm Beach Gardens), statistically one of the greatest players to wear a Santa Fe Saints uniform, is back in Gainesville this weekend with his Florida Atlantic University teammates to compete in the NCAA Baseball “Gainesville Regional”. FAU won the Sun Belt regular season title to earn a spot in the NCAA tournament.

The Owls (35-22) enter the tournament as a #2 seed and face off against 2006 and 2007 NCAA Champions and #3 seeded Oregon State University (31-22) on Friday, June 4 at 1:00pm in game one of the tournament. Game two of the four team regional will have #1 seed University of Florida (42-15) against #4 Bethune Cookman University (35-20) at 7:00pm on Friday. The winner of the double elimination tournament moves on to the Super Regionals and a chance at a spot in the College World Series.

In his first season with FAU, Mee has been a major factor in the Owls 2010 success. The junior outfielder/pitcher leads the team in hits (95), batting average (.388), total bases (145) and triples (5), is second in runs scored (55), RBI (53) and slugging percentage (.592) and is third in doubles (16) and homeruns (8). As the teams closer, Mee leads the team in ERA at 2.96 and the Sun Belt Conference in saves with 11. Following the regular season he was named First Team All-Sun Belt Conference.

During his sophomore season at Santa Fe, Mee hit .425 and broke the school record for hits in a season with 96, shattering the previous high of 84, set by Tommy Edwards in 1985. He also set the record for doubles in a season with 19, breaking Greg Labbe’s 1998 record of 18 and RBI in a season with 70, moving past Matt Armstrong’s record of 62 set in 2001.

As the Saints closer, Mee finished 2009 with the second most saves in a single season with 9, behind former Saint and Miami Hurricane Rene Guerra’s 13, and struck out 53 batters in 36.1 innings pitched.

For his career, Mee is the SF record holder for doubles (35), at bats (402), hits (169), is tied for first in career RBI (106) with former teammate Trace Venegas and Matt Armstrong (2001-02) and is second in runs scored (99) behind former teammate Tyler Cook (113).
