Artisans' Guild Gallery Opens 4th Annual Art Exhibition at Santa Fe College June 1

May 13, 2010

The President's Hall Gallery on Santa Fe College's Northwest campus is hosting the fourth annual Artisans' Guild Gallery exhibition.

The show runs June 1 to July 14, with 44 pieces by 18 different artists. Media includes oils, traditional and digital photography, mixed media, clay and metal sculpture, fabric art, acrylics, quilting, watercolors and more.

While there is plenty of traditional wall art, many of the works could fit into a house beautiful theme. Several of the artists have taken household items to a whole new level.

Well-known quilters Candace McCaffery and Elizabeth Strickland will show their trademark quilts. Sculptor Kate Shakeshaft Murray has a series of pieces that would enhance any kitchen, including a striped stoneware coffee service.

Sharon Cates colors the world with her stained glass mosaic. Glass is also the medium for Alison Dvorchik, whose lampwork beads are formed by applying a torch to glass rods. The technique is derived from traditional Murano glass art but incorporates Japanese, German and American techniques as well.

If you want to head out to the garden, Nancy Gildersleeve's Wisteria basket would add a lot of charm to the trip. Once there, Barbara Knutson's tree-inspired birdbaths would add a source of beauty.

For those who prefer their art framed, local artists like Linda Pence, and Ann Ramsden, and several others will offer plenty to take in.
