SF Student Selected for Highly Competitive Summer Accounting Program at FIU
May 9, 2010
Congratulations to Santa Fe's Darren Bailey for being selected for the Price Waterhouse Coopers/FICPA Accounting Development program for community college accounting students. Only 40 students were selected from across the nation to participate in this program. Darren is a sophomore accounting major at Santa Fe.
The program includes a six-day, five-night all-expenses-paid program held in June at Florida International University. The program is designed to increase awareness of careers in accounting, teach basic accounting concepts, improve personal finance knowledge, and to guide students through the process of transferring from a community college to a four-year institution.
The curriculum will teach accounting and business concepts through interactive classroom exercises, a firm site visit, and a comprehensive case study where students apply concepts from all areas of accounting to which they are exposed during the week. Students develop professionalism through participation in mock interviews, an etiquette dinner, and a presentation of their case solution. They will also experience campus living, learn about campus resources, and visit a Miami attraction.
Way to go, Darren!
