BARTLEY SIGNS WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA

Gainesville, FL – Santa Fe College All-State point guard Lanita Bartley has signed with the University of Florida to play next season for the Gators, Santa Fe Coach Chanda Stebbins announced.

“We are very excited for Lanita’s opportunity to play in the SEC for the University of Florida and Coach Butler and also that she will be staying close to home,” said Stebbins.  “She will be a great match with the system at UF.  Her speed, quickness and defensive ability will make her an important asset to the team.”

Bartley joins a University of Florida team that is coached by Amanda Butler and finished last season with an overall record of 15-17 and 7-9 in the Southeastern Conference, earning a bid in the Women’s National Invitational Tournament where they advanced to the second round.  Bartley follows former Saint Steffi Sorensen (2007-08) to UF.  Sorensen played with the Gators from 2008-2010.

Bartley dominated the conference in 2009-2010, leading the Saints to a second straight Mid-Florida Conference title and in the process was named the MFC Player of the Year and a First Team MFC and First Team FCCAA All-State honoree.  She was twice named the NJCAA National Player of the Week and was a member of the WBCA State Farm All-America Honorable Mention team.

She finished first in the MFC and fourth in the state in scoring with 17.8 ppg and first in the MFC and third in the state in both assists (149) and steals (92).  She also rebounded well from the guard position, averaging 6.2 per game, second highest on the team.

As a two year starter for SF, Bartley broke the school record for free throws made in a season (186) and career (272) and had two triple doubles her sophomore year, the first against Middle Georgia College (23 points, 11 rebounds, 10 assists) and the second against Florida State College (37 points, 10 rebounds, 11 assists).

During her freshman season, she averaged 10.9 points, five rebounds, 3.6 assists and two steals per game.

In her two year career, Bartley scored 748 points, dished out 232 assists and pulled down 340 rebounds.
