RIVERA INKS WITH FLORIDA GULF COAST UNIVERSITY
Gainesville, FL – Santa Fe College and Coach Chris Mowry have announced that sophomore point guard Marlon Rivera has signed with Florida Gulf Coast University (Ft. Myers), an NCAA Division I school in the Atlantic Sun Conference.
Rivera, a two year starter for the Saints, is joining the Eagles following two solid years with SF. As a sophomore, he averaged 7.5 points per game and 5.3 assists. For his efforts, the Mid-Florida Conference coaches voted him a member of the All-MFC First Team. In his freshman season, he scored 8.3 ppg and dished out 6.1 assists in earning Second Team MFC honors.
Florida Gulf Coast is coached by Dave Balza and finished last season 8-21 and 5-15 in conference in a rebuilding year. Former Saint Charlie Lytle is a rising senior on the team.
“This situation is a dream come true for me,” said Rivera. “I’m extremely happy for this opportunity because as a kid, I was always anxious to sign with a Division I program. FGCU is a good school with good coaches and I look forward to getting on the floor with my teammates to help bring success to the program.”
