SAINTS END REGULAR SEASON WITH WIN OVER CFCC, 18-8
Gainesville, FL – The Mid-Florida Conference Champion Santa Fe Saints (26-14, 17-7 MFC) dug themselves into a 5-0 hole after two innings for the second game in a row, but like Wednesday against Daytona, exploded offensively for a mercy rule win. SF piled up 18 runs on 21 hits and have scored 41 runs in their last two regular season games. They ended the regular season 15-2 in conference after starting 2-5. BOX SCORE
Central Florida, playing in a must win game for their State Tournament hopes, came out firing putting up two runs in the first and three in the second. Bryce Johnston put the Saints on the board in the second with an RBI single and SF added two more in the third on back to back doubles by Joe Clouse and Austin Lawrence and an RBI single by Jeff Moyer.
CFCC retook a four run lead, 7-3 with a two run homerun in the top of the fourth, but the flood gates opened in the bottom of the inning when the Saints exploded for nine runs on eight hits to go up 12-7, a lead they would not relinquish.
Johnston knocked in the first two of the inning with a triple, his second in as many games, Clouse followed him with an RBI single, Austin Lawrence doubled in a run and Jeff Moyer hit a sacrifice fly. Two batters later Brett Bozeman singled home a run and Cory Elasik put the finishing touches on the inning with a bases loaded, two out double to score three.
Santa Fe tacked on five more in the sixth on RBI singles by Johnston and Lawrence and a three run homerun by Jeff Moyer, his twelfth of the season.
Ahead 17-8 in the bottom of the eighth, Lawrence singled in the winning run for a walk off victory. The Saints swept the season series with CFCC 4-0.
