Research and Creative Projects Festival 2010

April 13, 2010

Science joins art in the spotlight

Science and art are sharing the stage at Santa Fe College's Research and Creative Projects Festival 2010. This annual event is organized by the Research in Undergraduate Education program, or RUE. The one-day event showcases studies done by Santa Fe students in a variety of disciplines including: biological sciences, mathematics, humanities and more.

The research is primarily presented through large-scale posters that detail the nature of the work, steps taken to develop it, and the outcome. There are 17 different posters, created from PowerPoint presentations, which detail the different studies. Subjects range from the effect of bullying to microorganisms in Hogtown creek. The arts will be represented with written poetry, stories, and dance performances.

The evening is broken down into four sections. The night opens with dance performances from 5-6 p.m. From 6-7:30 p.m. there will be a research symposium where five students will discuss their projects. Among the five will be Audra Rauner, whose film, “I Found It,” was entered in the “48 Hours Film Contest” that was part of the Tallahassee Film Festival. Rauner will discuss the process of taking a film from idea to completed work in 48 hours.

The evening will then move on to a series of six 10-minute plays that are part of the “In Ten Play Festival,” that is running at the same time. Each of the six original plays are written by SF students and performed by small ensembles. The night concludes with a reception after the last play finishes.

The entire event is free and open to the public.
