Homeless Coalition Visits Professor Naima Prince's Class
April 9, 2010
The National Coalition for the Homeless in Alachua County presented their Faces of the Homeless workshop in my Social Problems (SYG 2010 Sect. 001) class.
The workshop features a panel of homeless or formerly homeless speakers who will share their personal stories about how they became homeless and the problems they face(d) while living without housing. The session will begin with a brief overview of poverty and homelessness by Chelsea Carnes, an Americorps VISTA representative. Following this, the speakers each share their own stories, and the presentation ends with a question and answer session.
In anticipation of this visit, the students in the class made cash donations and will present the homeless speakers with $48.20 each. I am so proud of my students and their willingness to help others who are less fortunate.
