COLENA LAZAR SETS NEW STRIKEOUT RECORD, SAINTS CRUISE PAST LSCC, 9-1 AND 9-0
Leesburg, FL – The Santa Fe Saints (38-6, 16-2 MFC) had no trouble with Lake Sumter CC on Thursday afternoon as they flew past the Lakers for two five inning mercy rule wins. Colena Lazar (23-1) threw five innings, surrendering one run on two hits and struck out 10. She now holds the single season strikeout record with 234, eclipsing Rachael Foster's record of 228, with ten games still to play in the regular season.
The Saints scored nine runs on 12 hits, including five doubles. Jamiee Vega finished game one 4-for-4 with two runs, Taylor Pangilinan was 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and an RBI, Lawna Hunter was 2-for-3 with two runs and Gia Tomossone and Ashley Curry each doubled.
Jasmine Warren (15-4) shut out the Lakers in game two, pitching five innings, striking out seven. The Saints scored nine runs on 11 hits.
Taylor Pangilinan led the offensive charge in game two, going 2-for-3 with two homeruns and four RBI, Lawna Hunter was 2-for-3 with a homerun and two RBI, Doty finished 2-for-3 with a run, Ashley Curry was 1-for-2 with a double and an RBI and Jasmine Warren went 1-for-1 with an RBI and a run.
The Saints next doubleheader is on the road at Florida State College-Jacksonville on Saturday at 1:00pm. Santa Fe won the first two games of the season series in Gainesville and hold a two game advantage over the Stars in the MFC standings.
