SANTA FE SCORES MERCY RULE VICTORY AGAINST LSCC, 12-2

Gainesville, FL – Ken Wise held Lake Sumter CC to one hit with eight strikeouts over six innings of work and the Saints (19-13, 10-6 MFC) offense took things over from there, scoring 12 runs on 13 hits in the seven inning game.  BOX SCORE

“Ken Wise was excellent today,” said Coach Johnny Wiggs.  “It was great to see him bounce back after a shaky outing his last time on the mound.  He had a great bullpen session before the game and we knew if he carried that over we would be successful today.”

Jeff Moyer put the Saints on the board in the first inning with an RBI double, scoring Austin Lawrence who had reached after the LSCC catcher dropped the third strike, allowing him to reach first.

In the second inning Ricky Claudio led off with double and two batters later Nolan Malone singled him home.  With two outs, TJ Spina singled home a run and Jeff Moyer capped the inning with a two RBI double, making the score 5-0.

Santa Fe added two more runs in the fourth on RBI singles by Spina and Moyer.

Lake Sumter managed two runs in the top of the sixth, the first coming on a SF error and the second on an RBI groundout.

The Saints put the game away in the sixth, scoring five runs on three hits.  Brett Bozeman knocked in two with a bases loaded single, Jardian Thomas singled home two more, chopping the ball over the drawn in infield and the final run of the inning came on a wild pitch, scoring Thomas from third.

Jake Stridfeldt pitched a scoreless seventh inning to lock up the mercy rule victory.  The win gives Santa Fe sole possession of first place in the Mid-Florida Conference.  Trailing the Saints are: Central Florida (9-7), Daytona State (9-7), Lake Sumter (9-8) and St. John's River (9-8).

Jeff Moyer finished the game 3-for-3 with two doubles and four RBI, Claudio was 2-for-4 with a double, Nolan Malone was 2-for-3 with an RBI and TJ Spina finished 3-for-4 with two RBI.
