ERRORS COST SAINTS EXTRA INNING GAME AGAINST SEMINOLE 10-9
Sanford, FL – Ricky Claudio hit two homeruns on Monday afternoon against Seminole State College, including a ninth inning solo shot that tied the score at 8-8, but it wasn't enough as the Raiders came from behind in the tenth to end the Saints (18-13, 9-6 MFC) seven game winning streak.
Gary Merians started on the mound for SF and threw 6.2 innings, surrendering six runs, all unearned. Eight of Seminole's ten runs were the result of Santa Fe errors. Daryl Barnes threw 0.2 innings and gave up two unearned runs and Ory Pitts took the loss, giving up two runs on three hits in two innings.
The Saints took an early 5-1 lead on the strength of a Claudio two run HR, but Seminole stayed in the game and got within one with a four run seventh on four hits and three SF errors. The Raiders took their first lead of the game in the eighth when they scored two runs to go up 8-7.
With two outs in the ninth inning and no one on, Claudio left the yard for the second time in the game to tie the score and send it to extra innings.
Santa Fe scored one run in the top of the tenth on an RBI double by Jeff Moyer to retake the lead 9-8. Seminole started the bottom of the tenth with a walk and a single to put runners on first and third. The next batter hit a sacrifice fly to tie the score at 9-9 and the winning run came across on a squeeze play.
