SAINTS GET IMPORTANT SWEEP OF DAYTONA, 6-3 AND 10-2

Daytona, FL – The Santa Fe Saints (34-6, 12-2 MFC) picked up two key wins on Saturday afternoon against Daytona State College, winning game in 6-3 in ten innings and game two 10-2.

Colena Lazar (21-1) pitched all ten innings of game one and struck out 18 Falcon batters in the extra inning victory.

Ashley Curry (pictured) hit a two run homerun to knot the score at 3-3 and send it to extra innings.  In the tenth inning, the game went to an international tie breaker in which both teams start with a runner on second base.

Alexis Sowell started on second for the Saints in the top of the tenth.  Taylor Pangilinan singled to put runners on first and third and Britany Doty broke the tie with a two RBI double.  Mandi Brown added an insurance run when she doubled home Doty.  Colena Lazar pitched a scoreless bottom of the tenth to close out the game.

Curry finished game one 2-for-3 with a HR and two RBI, Taylor Pangilinan was 4-for-5 with a double and an RBI, Ashley Peterson was 2-for-3 with a double and LAwna Hunter had two doubles.

Jasmine Warren (13-4) started in the pitching circle in game two and struck out four in seven innings.

The Saints took control of the game early, going up 8-0 in the fourth inning.  The Falcons tried to stay in the game and managed two runs, but SF got those two back in the seventh to make the final score 10-2.

Mandi Brown led the offensive attack, going 3-for-4 with a double, two runs and three RBI, Alexis Sowell was 3-for-3 with an RBI, Curry 2-for-4 with a double and two RBI and Doty 2-for-4 with a double.

The Saints next doubleheader is at home on Tuesday against St. John's River CC.  The first game is scheduled for 2:30pm.
